Let the Cantor Law Group guide you through the adoption legal processes. No matter what your adoption situation is our attorneys have plenty of experience handling different situations.
Relative and non-relative adoptions
In these scenarios, your first step is often to obtain a Termination of Parental Rights from the child’s biological parents. This only happens if one or both of the parents contest the adoption. If the adoption is not contested, the parents must still be notified according to Arizona Revised Statute Section 8-106. Another common scenario is the adoption of a child by a relative that isn’t the parent. If the parent of a child is deceased, considered unfit to parent, is unable to be a parent for any reason or has abandoned the child, grandparents and other relatives may be entitled to adopt the child.
Other adoption types
While caring for children, both foster parents and stepparents often become so attached to the child or children they decide to adopt. Once you decide adoption is the next step for you, a social worker will usually perform a home study. These home studies can include criminal history checks, medical examination, financial analysis, background checks, a tour of the home and personal interviews. The court then reviews the findings to determine what the best interest of the child may be. By using a Family Law Attorney from the Cantor Law Group, the adoption process is far smoother for:
- Grandparent Adoptions
- International Adoptions
- Non-relative Adoptions
- Single parent Adoptions
- Foster care Adoptions
